Arlington VA Area Guide

Arlington is a diverse, caring, learning, participating, and sustainable community with attractive and safe residential and commercial neighborhoods.  Made up of 26 square miles located directly across the Potomac River from Washington DC, Arlington is a wonderful community.  With easy access to the Washington DC metropolitan area by car or public transportation, Arlington attracts an increasingly varied residential and commercial mix.

Originally part of the area surveyed for the nation’s capital, the portion on the west bank of the Potomac River was returned to the Commonwealth of Virginia by the U.S. Congress in 1846. This area was known as Alexandria City and Alexandria County until 1920 when the county portion was renamed Arlington County.

This beautiful 70-acre pastoral park offers a cornucopia of activities including biking, jogging, hiking, basketball, frisbee golf, baseball, tennis, volleyball, a school-age playground, picnic areas, multi-use paved trails and natural areas with streams. Something for everyone!

Wine Tasting Tour Food and Wine Festival

The Boomerang is offering tours of two Virginia Vineyards. You'll be able to enjoy the scenic views as you make your way through this seven hour excursion. Plus, you’ll get to learn about the wine making process, spend over an hour at each winery, walk through the vineyards, and take in the scenery as you enjoy a bottle of your new fave wine. You can either bring your own lunch or purchase the winery’s local breads, cheeses, jams and salamis for a picnic while you’re there. Bring some money with you as each vineyard charges between $15-$25 for wine tasting.

Arlington Historical Museum http://www.arlingtonhistoricalsociety.org/learn/sites_properties/museum.html
The Arlington Historical Museum, owned and operated by the Historical Society, is located at 1805 South Arlington Ridge Road, close to the Pentagon City and Crystal City metrorail stations. The two-story brick structure was built in 1891 as the Hume School, named for Frank Hume who gave some of the property for the school. It is the oldest school building in Arlington County.
