Fairfax, VA Area Guide

The city of Fairfax was originally named after Thomas Fairfax, the 6th Lord of Cameron. In the 1700s, King Charles awarded Thomas Fairfax 5 million acres of land in Northern Virginia. The city was officially renamed the Town of Fairfax in 1874 and became an independent city in 1961.
